Stereotypes

We're taught that stereotypes are a bad thing. However, isn't there some degree of honesty in stereotypes? If not, it seems like they would fade over time.
I'm not saying that we should take stereotypes as universal truth or by no means assume 'one size fits all', but what's wrong w/ identifying traits of a culture, accepting it, & maybe even laughing about it then moving on? It seems like stereotypes are politically incorrect but I've seen so many people who I consider 'good' & those who aren't so 'good' do it.
I guess what I'm wondering is if stereotypes are somewhat true, why do so many of us mutter under our breaths about them after looking behind us before saying something?

Take me for example. I'm Asian. Though I'm in no way fobby & am probably more American than Chinese...yes, I love my rice. I also love playing the piano, I strive to make my parents happy even if they can be over critical, I have a strong prescription for my glasses (which I wear more often), & when I have time I love to read. So what? All of this is true about me. A lot of this falls under the Asian stereotype; at the same time, a lot about me doesn't. Like I said, stereotypes seems to be true to an extent. If that's the case, is it so wrong to use them to establish a vague understanding of one another but keep in mind we're all individuals & proceed as necessary? As long as we don't fall into assumption that all stereotypes apply to each person, I don't see the harm. Then again, I guess that could open up a whole can of worms so maybe that's why we leave everything as is?

Regardless, I hope all of you had a good Christmas & are enjoying the holidays (:

Merry Christmas everyone (:

You better believe my mother bought me those pants for Christmas. You're jealous.

So. Much. Pain.

I woke up this morning & my mom told me I was getting my last two wisdom teeth pulled today.
No big, since I wanted to get it done before we left anyways.

TELL ME WHY IT TOOK JUST UNDER TWO HOURS TO GET ONE TOOTH OUT BECAUSE IT WAS RIGHT BY A MAJOR NERVE & EVERY TIME SHE WIGGLED THE TOOTH IT CAUSED ME MASSIVE PAIN EVEN AFTER TEN LOCAL ANESTHETIC SHOTS.
In that time I also had to push my jaw in the opposite direction that she was pulling w/ my hand just to compensate.
The other, of course, only took about ten minutes to do.

My gums are still bleeding & it's been seven hours since I got stitches...kill me

Break! Yay!

Since getting out of my last final (yesterday at 12pm) I have:
- gone out to lunch w/ some of the pharm kids
- tuned the guitar, retaught myself a few notes & chords since last playing (the summer)
- played the piano
- taken a nap for once
- gone to Mexicantown w/ some friends from down the hall in the dorms last year
- went to D'Mongos, met some cool &/or foreign kids & went w/ them to an abandoned church party
- actually got to hang out w/ people I haven't seen in a long time
- slept in till 1:30pm
- watched mind numbingly bad TV
- had Bangkok Cuisine (& spilled curry all over myself, fail)

In the next 12 hours I will:
- be going to a party in Rochester & seeing a bunch of people that I haven't seen in a very long time
- go skiing w/ my dad (:

In the next two weeks:
- vacation to mainly hike part of the Appalachians
- read, sleep, eat, & run
- hang out
- do whatever I want.
AKA I'm super pumped for these next two (short) weeks of freedom & I'm determined to make every day count. Even if that's sleeping, I'm so ready.

Finding happiness/comfort within

So I just looked over this post & realized that the title has pretty much nothing to do w/ what I wrote in here (or barely) but I guess that's the main thing that's going on in my life now other than school. Just a heads up for you.

In the last few weeks:
- Over thanksgiving we met a father & daughter new to the family friend gatherings. I introduced myself & the dad (who is Chinese too) said, "oh, so you're still in high school right?" & when I told him I was quite a bit older than that, he apologized & said he only thought that because I "looked so little" hahah
- I bought the one of the warmest comforter I've ever slept w/. It was pretty expensive but I still got 40% off the original price soo I'm sure it'll earn its worth for the upcoming years
- One day a few weeks ago (AKA before it started snowing) it was raining & I was walking to work. On main campus it stopped raining so I went to fold in my umbrella. Little did I know that my finger was over the button to eject it still so when I took my hand off to put it in my backpack it flew up & I got umbrella face slapped. A girl saw & laughed. I win. (:
- I'm slowly taking the baby steps in the right direction for me. At least I think so, this semester has been really interesting, full of change, & a bunch of emotions. It hurts now but hey, no pain no gain, right?
Even still, I wish that it was easier to make tough decisions (go figure, I know) but I guess we all can't progress if we don't go through life w/o a few bumps in the road to do what's best for the long run & not just the short.

It still sucks. But I'm trying to be positive, brownie points? ehhh? I really could use some (:
- Anyways, one practical & one final down, one practical & six more finals to go until freedom for a few weeks. I'm ready...maybe not for all of my exams just yet, but I'm ready for them to be over. But no worries, I've learned this year how to cram like a pro so hopefully I can combine that w/ how I used to study in years past to make a killer test machine (hahaha I'm so lame.)
