Testify - Rage Against the Machine

First day on the job today! So begins my 10 week run w/ Target Pharmacy part two. I'm sad to be leaving my old store but am looking forward to the opportunities & experiences I'll gain w/ a new team at a busier location. Hopefully I'll be able to do more counseling & get more comfortable w/ patient interaction as well as conquer billing (the headache of any pharmacist).

Second game of the soccer season is tonight against Chinatown! Ironically, I don't think anyone on their team is Asian but I'll know for sure in a few hours. Can't wait to play in this game- no ultimate today means no messed up knees. Yeah!

Shake it Off - Mariah Carey

I have no idea why that song is stuck in my head.

For those of you that don't know, I've lived in my apartment for about three weeks now & we definitely are waging war against German cockroaches. It took a while to figure out what they were- namely because they don't look like the conventional ones & they only hung out around the kitchen at night. After a call to the landlord & some roach poison it looked like things were getting better as we saw less come out every night. Then I found one on my bed two nights ago. Touche, roaches.
Also, seriously gross. Which is why I moved the majority of my stuff home in sealed boxed w/ roach poison in it so I hopefully don't bring them w/ me wherever we move to next.

This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) - Natalie Cole

You know your sunburn is bad when the difference between your skin that was covered & your burnt skin is the same contrast between the meat & fat of bacon strips.
That probably was a weird analogy but was the first thing that came to mind.

Day 2 of sunburn: ohhhh god, I completely forgot how much sunburns suck. I don't think I'm going to be lying on my back for a while.

Santeria - Sublime

Well, after what was a long time (three weeks) of no significant sports injuries while playing ultimate two times a week, soccer, & running, I've finally done myself in. Our first soccer game of the season is in four hours & I can't move my knee without pain even w/ a brace on. The hobble is back in full force, but hopefully throwing a heat pack on it will help.

Until then, it looks like today will be reading & cereal in bed. Holla.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge that this is the closest I've come to losing my voice ever. It's been compared to smoking a few packs a day for years...so ladies, I know you'll find it sexy. Get at me.

The Walk - Mayer Hawthorne

That awkward moment when a mariachi band personally serenades you w/ songs described as romantic because they think you're on a date & the friend you're eating w/ only encourages them to do more.

I finally understand how to play minesweeper! After almost 22 years. Yup.

Two Princes - Spin Doctors

That moment when you finally find your charger a week after moving (& keeping your phone off to save the battery)...but you can't find your phone.

Hahahah. I'm dumb.

Shimmer - Fuel

Laundry day at the parents' + delicious lunch (:
Pharm fest was great yesterday, got to meet some really cool P1s & I look forward to working w/ them in the fall!

This lovely gem was waiting for me in my inbox this morning:

1) I hope this doesn't become a yearly tradition
2) This reaffirms why I delete people like this in the first place

Tip for everyone reading: if you are deleted off some one's fb that you haven't talked to years, have some class & leave it be. Especially when you were only acquaintances, they don't respond to your "omg you deleted me wtf" message, & if you've already sent a message like that before. It's frankly annoying, pathetic, & creepy.

Here's also to hoping I wasn't stalked enough where he can read this. However, if this is you I'm talking about, sorry for the potential embarrassment but please take this in no way subtle hint & chill out.

Nothing From Nothing - Billy Preston

Well, as you can probably tell from how little I've been posting that I've been making up for lost time in my social life. I haven't had a day where I've had the time to sleep in between the pharmacy end of the year bar crawl, watching the Avengers, my best friend's graduation, moving apartments (which is still a huge mess), LKS stuff, & other things I've been putting off for a while like a dental & ophthalmic appointment. Tomorrow & Friday are no exceptions between lunch dates, pharm fest (pre-orientation orientation, if that makes sense, for the incoming P1s), catching up w/ old friends, & four birthday celebrations.
Tonight, however, I'm looking forward to cleaning up at least a few rooms of the apartment & finishing up this book I was recommended.

My internship should probably start earlier or else I'm going to go broke from all this money I'm spending. Good times vs bank account. Touche.

Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder

Well, here goes nothing. See you guys on the other side! Hopefully finishing off w/ a successful semester.

Still - Matt Nathanson

Another funny story about my grades...
We have this class called patient care lab where you learn mostly clinical skills such as patient counseling, setting up IV drips, compounding medications (basically mixing etc if it's not something that a company manufactures), & physical exams such as blood pressure, skin & extremities, lung, heart, abdomen, neurological, etc. At the end of the semester we have practicals where any of the skills we've learned from that semester or the one prior can be tested & we won't know what it'll be until we walk in the room or five minutes before. You can imagine it's a little nerve wracking. Anyways, the way we're evaluated is a P for pass & R for repeat. If you have one R you have to come in at a later date to redo the station you failed- if you fail again you can be held back a year. If you have two Rs you have to redo all six practical stations. Three Rs...I have no idea what happens.
To give you a background, I've always had to repeat a practical station so my main goal was to pass every one for our last set.

When I was checking my grades I saw I had Ps and Hs next to the stations & I was really confused because I didn't know what H meant. I really thought it stool for hold as in I did so badly that I'd have to talk to the professor about it- what made it worse is that there were three of them. But I happened to look at the bottom of the page which had my final grade. I kinda stared at it, realized I got an A, & was shocked. Then I realized that H means honors hahaha. As in if you exceed the expectations of the evaluator you receive this mark, three of them (without a repeat) means you get an A in the class.
What makes it hilarious is that I thought I completely failed, I'm going to give myself a heart attack.
...I have to say this...but at least if I do (get a heart attack) I'll know what kind of drugs to give myself based on my EKG! I probably lost you guys there. Sorry.

Two more days. Need a 50% to pass. Hanging in there, kinda. My mind has checked out so it's time to reel it back in.

Edit: Is it sad that I crack myself up w/ weird things I write in my notes that I forget about then rediscover it as I study? Today's example- in talking about modifiable risk factors for stroke, hypertension is one of them. My notes: "everyone gets it when they're old. Like herpes."
I'm still laughing. I know I have issues. In fact, I'll probably look back on this post & think I'm the dumbest person ever but in this moment, I still find it (myself?) funny.
