- I love my cousins, aunts, & uncles. I miss you guys already! Thanks so much for taking us everywhere, for all the laughs, forthe generosity, & for your patience w/ the gimp American English only cousin (Andrew doesn't count, haha jk). I hope to see you guys sooner than in four years, it's seriously too long (not what she said).
- Lots of laughs & hanging out w/ my brother, something that hasn't really been possible considering he lives in Maryland & I only see him a few weeks out of the year.
- Hiking! I went on the hardest hike of my life this trip...Kota Kinabalu. Think 6km of steep stairs & you pretty much have this trail, then add rain, wind, & coldness. The sad thing is I didn't even reach the summit, meaning I'll have to go hike it next time we're back & drag myself up the last 2.5km. I'm pretty disappointed I wasn't able to finish it, pretty lame that tea brought me down. (You're forced by the park to stay on the mountain overnight before finishing the trail, so at the cafeteria up there I drank lots of tea...which had lots of caffeine. I wasn't able to sleep & because my body didn't get the rest it needed, my ankles & knees hurt so much by the time we had to leave to hike to the top that I couldn't do it. FAIL.)
- I went scuba diving for the first time! & it was gorgeous, I saw a few clownfish in anemones & of course, I thought of Finding Nemo. I also met some pretty cool people there & got some good new beats to check out from the trip.
- Learned some traditional dances at a head hunter tribe site (they literally used to cut off the heads of their enemies & have 300 year old ones on display). One was from the 17th century & was really lame but funny, the other was w/ bamboo poles & fun though pretty hard.
- Saw sooo many Malacca lizards, VERY exciting.
- Got some good asian food to bring back! Hopefully it all passes through customs
- Speaking of food, I ate a ton of excellent stuff in Malaysia that you can't get in the USA. Mmm. Especially Mangosteen, I think my obsession w/ this fruit has just exponentially increased since consuming ungodly amounts. For those of you who haven't tasted it before, it's very sweet, tastes kinda like starbursts but is so much better.
- Watching crappy movies on the plane rides while I should be studying for this test I have to pass by Tuesday, oh yeah. Whatever, it's still technically vacation right?
-We went parasailing & this new thing called flyfishing...the latter was about 432849032842 times more enjoyable (:
- The only downside of this trip other than not being here long enough: I lost my favorite necklace (one w/ the lightning bolt). So I hope it turns up, but at this point it's been out of my hands, figuratively & literally. Oh well.
Right now we're chilling in Taipei, it's 8:20pm Malaysian & 8:20am in Michigan. Our flight is around 10am/pm for a 13 hour flight back to San Francisco, then we have another layover, then we're finally back in Detroit! I'm excited to be back, but I would have loved to spend another week w/ my family. It's been so nice, but I guess it's always better to leave wanting more than counting the days till you're back. So as long as our plane doesn't pull a Castaway (w/ Tom Hanks) we'll be back in less than 24 hours! ....fuck all of the layovers & plane rides. I don't think that saving a few hundred dollars was worth the added 10 hours of traveling. (Then again, I shouldn't complain because I didn't pay for my ticket)
