Becoming Legal

I get that turning 21 in the US is usually a long awaited landmark (admittedly, I'm waiting for the day when I can walk into the store & booze up or just go out w/ my friends & pay less cover) but is it really necessary to start a countdown or plan what you're going to buy/wear out on your birthday when it's months away?

I guess I don't get what the big hype is about, yes people can finally go out to the bars/clubs without annoying X's & party away to their hearts' content w/ drinks in hand. But it seems like those who really care about being able to legally do all of these have already done lots of drinking before (w/ or w/o a fake ID), so I don't see how this revolutionizes the way they get down & jiggy wit it.
